Welcome to Dog Lover’s Guide to Feeling Better!
I’m stoked to have you here. The purpose of DLG is to help people feel better. Which is different from feeling better.
Let me explain.
At one point or another, you probably wanted to stop feeling the way you were feeling, to switch from sadness to joy, or stress to calm. You wanted to feel better, which is natural, because sadness and stress are suffering. Who wants to suffer?
The problem with feeling better is that it’s hard to define. How do you know you’ve achieved better? When sadness or stress cropped up again, did that mean you failed?
When you try to achieve perfect happiness, you inevitably fall short, and then you conclude there must be something wrong with you. Now you not only feel unhappy and like a failure, but you feel broken, too. Suffering upon suffering. The worst.
That’s why Dog Lover’s Guide is designed to help you feel better. Whatever you’re feeling, be it depressed or hopeful, anxious or chill, furious or delighted, Dog Lover’s Guide aims to help you feel those feelings in a way that’s good for you and those around you.
How?
With DOGS.
I love dogs. I think dogs are the answer to all problems. Lonely? Dog snuggles. Want to get moving more? Dogs need walks. Want friends? Dogs make you approachable.
I could go on, but I promised myself I’d keep this email under 500 words, and only a third of them would be dog.
This is my dog Pants.
Her proper name is Pants!, but it’s hard to write it like that, so just try to include the exclamation in your head when you read her name. Go ahead and try it: Pants!
She’s an Aussie/Golden party mix from Texas who loves apples, yodeling, and leaving her fur everywhere. Before we got Pants, we had two shelties, Sammy and Brie. Sammy was an anxious starfish with an icepick bark.
Brie was a tripawed princess who owned any room she hopped into.
My dogs have taught me a lot about feeling better, and I hope to use Dog Lover’s Guide to share those insights with you. As a psychologist, I’ll also include lots of helpful and evidence-based information about mental health, too.
If you haven’t already subscribed, you can do that below so you don’t miss any posts.
And if you know anyone who might enjoy, please share!
Cheers,
Chloe and Pants!
ps - I only said dog 13 times.
I love this Chloe!! Your office neighbor Tonia :)
