My dog is better at waiting than I am. He trained so easily, I’m probably doomed with my next dog. When he was 6 months old, I accidentally dropped a bottle of Aleve on the floor, pills everywhere. He ran over and I yelled “WAIT”. He stopped dead in his tracks and I got the pills picked up.

WOW!! What a good boy! He sounds like a smart cookie. I had that same experience with my boy Sam. It took one try to train him on leave it. Pants, on the other hand, needed a little more help (bless).

I love how you compare humans and dogs in waiting and adopting new habits/commands.

The one "wait" I could relate to in my life was when I was quitting smoking. I started by skipping the odd routine cigarette. I don't know if you've ever smoked but skipping one was like Pants' version of bolting on two steps backward 🤣

BTW, Dezi also does ALL the tricks at once if she doesn't understand what I want from her lol. It's funny to watch.

Yessss! I’d guess having your “why” for quitting was also important for muscling through those cravings!

Yes...and believe it or not it was more financial than "You're killing yourself!!" But man did I feel physically better after quitting!

That makes perfect sense to me. A far distant health problem? Our brains can’t really conceptualize it. The money being taken out of your wallet at this moment? MUCH easier to conceptualize. It’s a more concrete and immediate “why,” which makes it way more effective.
